Med Jones is the president of International Institute of Management (IIM) – A US based research and education organization. He is recognized for his contribution to the development of Gross National Happiness (GNH) concept as a socioeconomic policy framework. The GNH concept was originated in 1972 by Bhutan's former King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, as a national ruling philosophy based on a Buddhist spiritual point of view. In his seminal research paper, published in 2006, Jones proposed a second generation GNH metric measuring socioeconomic development as an alternative to the standard Gross National Product (GNP) metric. The GNH 2.0 metric tracks seven socioeconomic development areas. The purpose of the new framework is to bridge the development gap between objective western, yet incomplete socioeconomic policy framework and holistic yet subjective eastern philosophy. His proposal found many supporters in academic and research institutions around the world. Jones provides strategy consulting and education to Governments and the global Fortune 1000 companies.
